Fabian Cancellara was over the moon after winning his second Olympics gold in the time trial event at the recently concluded Rio Olympics.
The Swiss cycling star said that he has no doubts about retiring from cycling now. He has signed off his final season in the best possible manner. There was much talk about Froome or Tom Dumoulin from Netherlands winning the gold and Cancellara rode the race of his life in vintage style to take the gold medal at the Olympics. The Dutch man came second and Froome from Great Britain finished third.
Fabian said that this was his last attempt at winning a medal at the Olympics and to get gold is very special. He is very happy to leave the cycling sport at the end of the season knowing that he had clinched the gold medal at the end of his career. It was his last big trial of his life and he was able to make it his own. He said that he had screamed on the podium as he could not control his emotions.
Fabian is a big Swiss legend in his own right as he has won two Olympic gold medals and four World Championships in his illustrious cycling career. He has also won seven stages at the Tour De France and three wins each in Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. He has already announced his retirement from professional cycling.
Cancellara is happy that his last season as a professional cyclist has been the best year and he was impressed with the performance that he had put up at the classics, the Switzerland leg of Tour De France and of course the Olympics.
He is glad that he was in the pink of his health during the Olympics event and is super proud to win a gold medal in his last year in professional cycling.
